Sarah Drew Welcomes Son Micah Emmanuel

Axelle/Bauer Griffin

The wait is over … it’s a boy for Sarah Drew!

The Grey’s Anatomy star, 31, delivered son Micah Emmanuel Lanfer at 6:21 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18 in Los Angeles, her rep confirms to PEOPLE exclusively.

“She and her husband, Peter Lanfer, are in love with him!” the rep says of the couple’s new baby boy, who weighed in at 7 lbs., 4 oz and is 19 inches long.

“I thought it would be a good idea to wait to find out because I am a control freak by nature,” Drew explained of their decision to be surprised at the birth.

“I’m about to walk into a chapter of my life where I have no control over anything anymore, and I figured I’d ease myself into it by not allowing myself to plan for the sex of the baby. It’s good training for me!”

Gorgeous name! It’s so refreshing to see a celebrity not name their child something that will haunt them for the rest of their lives…

- RKF on

Love her on Grey’s Anatomy. I love the name Micah too. It was at the top of my boy name list, but my husband wasn’t in love with it as much as me.

- Ann on

Finally a normal Hollywood name! She’s so right about not having control anymore, haha. Congrats new mamma & papa.

What I love about Sarah and her husband…they’ve been married 10 years and waited until they were ready to have a baby. Plus, they’re adorable!!

Awww so cute. I like that she waited for a surprise and her reasoning behind it – very sensible.

- CelebBabyBlogAddict on

Her attitude about her new chapter in life and why she didn’t find out the sex make great sense to me! She sure is going to have to “let go” of some things now that a new baby has entered her world! Congrats to them!

I just had my first boy and named him Micah, too! I haven’t heard of too many Micahs…congrats to Sarah and her family! May they enjoy much happiness!!

Micah…what a nice name. Not like Pilot Inspector or Tree Bark or Monkee Love

- Trina on

Congrats! Love the name Micah – then again I am a little partial as it’s the name of my little cousin lol.

- Harley on

Love the name! Thank you on giving your child a beautiful name without it being crazy like Moracco!!

Notice the announcement at this birth. All the weights etc. None of this type of stuff was reported and b and j’s baby’s birth. this is the normal reporting for a REAL birth. B and J had a fake one with the surrogate or the plane landing from a different country or whatever the deal was. if theirs was real, there would have been a story like this instead of the bs like there was.

- Jen on

Congrats to them!

Jen- I guess you missed Beyonce and Jay-Z’s announcement of Blue’s birth, where they mentioned her weight- 7lbs.

- Anonymous on

Although I REALLY can’t stand her character..congrats!! :)

- Kelley on

Kelley, I agree, but she was cute as a bug as Kitty on Mad Men!

- jennrae on

As Mommy to my own Micah, I have to say I LOVE the name they have chosen for their little man :-)

- April on

My 2 year old sons name is Micah Emmanuel as well..Congrats and welcome to the world Micah!!

- Tifanny on

Jen, I feel the same way and many people commented about the same thing. You are not alone on that one!

Anonymous, she didn’t say anything about the weight. Many people have said the same thing. The story was very disconnected as though someone else could have delivered.

- Jillian on

Anon- She most certainly did mention the weight. Here’s the statement she and Jay-Z gave:

““We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012,” the couple said, confirming the news in a joint statement Monday.

“Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful – we are in heaven.”

“She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lbs.,” the statement adds, dispelling rumors that the birth was by scheduled cesarean.”

- Anonymous on

Anonymous, Not talking about Beyonce……..I was referring to Jens initial post. I was saying that Jen didn’t mention anything about the weight in her post, but I was incorrect about that. It really is irrelevant. However…….i still agree with her that beyonces birth announcement announced a baby was born. It didn’t make me feel or believe the child was delivered by her, where almost every other announcement does. That was her point…..and I agree.

Why are you so bothered by it that you have to try to defend Beyonce? When you have no clue what the truth is either.

- Jillian on

micah and emmanuel are both biblical name and i love it.

- Anonymous on

What freaks we have in the world today.

You didn’t FEEL as if they worded their birth announcement appropriately so you assume there is a conspiracy? Holy crap. That’s INSANE.

Even if that was not their baby’s physical birth, you are saying that adoption and surrogacy are not “real babies”.Read your post from that point of view before you defend yourself. Read it and realize how crazy you both sound.

And see a therapist, will you?

- Kestrel on

Kestrel grow up.

So tired of people here telling others to “seek help” “get off or one the meds” “take a nap” when they have nothing productive to add and want to instigate.
