Lady Gaga's New Video for 'Marry the Night' – an Enigma

Friday December 02, 2011 10:45 AM EST

Lady Gaga's road to fame was certainly a rough one, if the video for her new single "Marry the Night" is any indication.

The latest in a line of epic music videos, the enigmatic 14-minute clip, which Gaga herself directed and has said is autobiographical, will certainly leave fans talking, if not scratching their heads.

Having premiered on VEVO, the video shows the triple Grammy nominee in a hospital, suffering a breakdown and finally vowing to emerge as a star.

"It's sort of like my past is an unfinished painting, and as the artist of that painting, I must fill in all the ugly holes and make it beautiful again," the singer, 25, says in voiceover as she's shown being wheeled through a medical facility on a gurney when the video starts.

A tearful Gaga eventually tells her nurse before she's discharged from the hospital: "I'm gonna be a star. You know why? Because I have nothing left to lose."

But the next sequence depicts a topless Gaga having a breakdown in her apartment. As the video ends, Lady Gaga is seen heading to a meeting at Interscope Records.

And the rest, as they say, is history.
