LG Rumor Touch (Virgin Mobile) price range: $78.00

The good: The LG Rumor Touch has a very text-messaging-friendly interface. Its slider QWERTY keyboard is easy to use, and we like that it has a 3.5mm headset jack for music, e-mail, social networking support, and great call quality.
The bad: The LG Rumor Touch's photo quality is average, and the touch screen isn't quite as responsive as we would like.
The bottom line: The LG Rumor Touch is a touch-screen phone for Virgin Mobile that is geared especially for messaging fans.
Now that Sprint owns Virgin Mobile, it's no surprise that a few of Sprint's phones have made it to the prepaid carrier's lineup. The LG Rumor Touch is one such device, and though the hardware remains the same, the Rumor Touch is now available for $149.99 without a contract for Virgin Mobile customers who like going the prepaid route. The only difference between the Sprint and Virgin Mobile models lies in their respective services. The Virgin Mobile version doesn't have Sprint Music or Sprint TV, and offers Virgin Mobile Navigator instead of Sprint Navigator for maps and turn-by-turn direction.
Because the phones are identical, we'll point you to our review of the LG Rumor Touch for Sprint for most of the design and features. As for applications and games, the LG Rumor Touch for Virgin Mobile comes with Midnight Bowling 2, Tetris, Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man, Google Maps, Email + IM, and Opera Mini. In this review, we'll focus on just call quality and performance.
Performance
We tested the LG Rumor Touch in San Francisco using Virgin Mobile. We were impressed by the call quality overall. There was very little static, and calls sounded crisp and clear. Callers said we sounded great as well. They did say voice quality was a little muddy at times, and we sounded rather muffled when in speakerphone mode. We thought the speaker quality was decent, but nothing earth-shattering. We wouldn't use the phone for listening to music; bass was weak, and songs lacked richness and depth.
The 3G speeds were quite good as well. We loaded the mobile CNET page in just 20 seconds, and the New York Times site in around 40 seconds.
The LG Rumor Touch has a rated battery life of 7 hours of talk time. According to our tests, the Rumor Touch has a talk time of 6 hours and 48 minutes. According to the FCC, it has a digital SAR of 1.2 watts per kilogram.

Summary: The LG Rumor Touch is a great starter smart phone. The Internet was fast. The pictures were good (make sure you turn off haptic feedback if you don't want blurry pics). But the customer service associated with the phone was terrible. Tried to port my phone number over from T-Mobile and I had to call three times and the third time after waiting for a half an hour, customer service hung up on me. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. I really liked the phone, but I think that if you really want this phone go to Sprint.

This phone is the least intuitive phone ever.
by salek100 on November 9, 2011
Pros: The phone is very well designed to annoy you
Cons: To save something, you have to confirm 4 times and if you don't, it just deletes it. When you receive a second phone, and you swap, you either have to hung up on both, or none (ridiculous). When you receive a phone call, there is no option of rejecting it
Summary: This phone is well designed to annoy you.

Great Phone with 3rd Party Java Apps Hack Enabled
by brighteyes1983 on September 5, 2010
Pros: I really like the touch screen and the ability to calibrate the touch screen. I am fairly impressed with the NetFront built in browser (not too amazing, but better than most built in I've had in the past). I like that it plays movies.
Cons: Memory is easily overloaded. Very few apps available from Virgin Mobile-zero games (although you can install 3rd party apps with the hack enabled). Customer service from VM is terrible over the phone-Email is the only way to really get things done!
Summary: I've had this phone for several months now, and I love it. However, it was really disappointing to me when I found out that there were so few apps ...
Summary: I've had this phone for several months now, and I love it. However, it was really disappointing to me when I found out that there were so few apps available from Virgin Mobile. It was also locked down to make it so you could only buy wallpaper and music ringtones from Virgin Mobile as well. I started really liking the phone when I cam across Danatheteacher's "LG Rumor Touch Hack Central" website at Hubpages.com. She explained how to install 3rd party apps, get custom ringtones and wallpapers. This has made this fairly "inexpensive" phone (when you look at sticker prices for other companies) a true gem. Virgin Mobile's replacement plan is excellent as well. My first phone had the top right corner touch sensor break down, and after emailing them, they shipped me a new one for free. They handle all the warranty service, which was really nice.

I Love This Phone!!
by Nannycrick on August 15, 2010
Pros: The screen resolution is beautiful. The graphics are a solid performer. I love having the ability to move thing aroung in the menu on the home screen. The MP3 player works great and has good volume without the headphones attached.
Cons: The only drawback I found was getting my music from my Windows PC to my phone. No one told me I had to download a wma to mp3 converter into my PC to convert all my tunes first. I found a good one on this website: FreeRip. Check it out.
Summary: I would recomend this phone to anyone, especially if they never had a smartphone before. I was greatful for the video summary on this site as it gave me some ...
Summary: I would recomend this phone to anyone, especially if they never had a smartphone before. I was greatful for the video summary on this site as it gave me some tips on how to work my phone. The manual included did not tell me about the mp3 conversion issue, that took the advice of a friend. The bluetooth and the connection to my PC sub programs worked very well out of the box. All in all, a really pleasing phone to use!!

Summary: Great text-messaging phone with nice features. Although not as feature rich as the LG enV Touch, this phone is great for texting and nice for budget-minded customers looking for a touchscreen phone with cheap plans.
By the way, the default browser is kind of bad. If you want a better browser, you can download the Opera Mini browser for free. You can download it from your phone.

Awesome all around phone!
by RedThorn92 on March 29, 2012
Pros: It's got a great simple touch screen, the picture quality and options are great. Its also not hard to download music or pictures (Preferably have a Micro SD card, simpler, faster and can hold lots more) Durable, and Grouped Texts. Also the Keyboard.
Cons: In my experience sometimes I get frustrated with the web browser if I use it too long or in a lower service area as it will take longer to load pages, also with 0-2 bars of service you gotta do service fishing to send texts without failure notices
Summary: Overall I think this is a great phone and is perfect for just getting into the smartphone series, as its not too complicated to figure out and keeps things simple ...

Great call quality and service. I love this phone and would recommend it to my friends if they were searching for a great basic touch screen/keyboard phone.

Not worth the aggravation

Pros: Like the touch screen, user friendly, great for texting, decent pictures, good battery life

Summary: I have had this phone less than a month, and I already want to switch. I bought this phone mainly for Facebook, and texting. 4 days after I bought it, I called customer service because the preloaded Facebook app still wasn't connecting. I was advised that this phone no longer supports the app. So I have to use the phone's web browser to go on Facebook, which doesn't work half the time. Service is either great or non-existant, no in between. Phone reboots itself multiple times a day. If someone sends a long text, it is sent as multiple texts, and the phone crashes. Overall, I would not recommend this phone.

Summary: I recommend this phone if you want a nice phone but aren't ready for a fancy smart phone. Unlike the less expensive Virgin Mobile phones, you can download music on to the phone and put games and apps on it if you know how to. A microSD card is nice to have, as it gives you more space on the phone.

Love this phone!!!
by LeftyKittay on October 27, 2011
Pros: It became my friend, in settings you can go and sync the touchscreen to the way you do it, good photo quality, good messaging, works with opera mini. Tough, I'm terrible with electronics and dropped mine out of a second-story window and onto pavement and
Cons: (From personal experience) Won't survive the washing machine, but really unless you get one that costs you an arm and a leg, what phone will?
