Queen Elizabeth Welcomes First Great-Grandchild

There's a new royal in the fold: Peter Phillips, cousin to Princes William and Harry, and his wife Autumn welcomed a daughter Wednesday, making Queen Elizabeth a great-grandmother for the first time.

The baby girl, whose name has not yet been released, is 12th in line for the throne. The baby is the first grandchild of Peter Phillips's mother, Princess Anne, and the first great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.

"Mrs. Peter Phillips was yesterday safely delivered of a baby girl at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital," the Queen's press secretary said in a statement Thursday. "The weight of the baby was 8 lbs., 8 oz. Mr. Peter Phillips was present at the birth."

Both families "are delighted with the news," the statement continued, adding, that "the baby's name will be confirmed in due course."

The birth will be followed up with more happy news for the royals in a few months when Prince William marries Kate Middleton in April.
