The Piano Man is on the mend.

Last week, Billy Joel, 61, opted to have surgery on both his hips to treat a congenital ailment, PEOPLE confirms.

"Billy Joel is doing extremely well following bilateral hip replacement," says Joel spokeswoman Claire Mercuri. "He will be back at his Long Island home by the end of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend."

No word yet, though, on how quickly Joel – who toured earlier this year and recently promoted a documentary film The Last Play at Shea – will make it back to the stage.
