John Forsythe lost his nearly four-year battle with cancer Thursday. Hollywood is fondly remembering the 92-year-old Dynasty patriarch.

• Upon learning of Forsythe's death Friday, Heather Locklear, who appeared on Dynasty, reflected on her costar's memory. "John was a gentleman in every sense of the word," she said in a statement. "He was a gifted actor who knew the true meaning of being gracious and kind. He will be missed."

• His Charlie's Angels costar Kate Jackson told PEOPLE Friday that she used to leave notes around the set for Forsythe. "I made an effort never to see him when he came in to [record] his voiceover, but I left messages for him," she said. "And he would leave me a note saying, 'Hi Sabrina, it's Charlie. You'll never catch me!'"

After quitting the popular TV show, Jackson said she saw Forsythe often. "He had a grace about him that was incredibly awesome," she said. "John had a great sense of humor, and he was wonderful."

Dynasty costar Joan Collins called her former costar the "last of the true gentleman of the acting profession," in a statement. "I enjoyed my nine years of feuding, fussing and fighting as the Carringtons and I was so glad to have had the chance to reunite with him a few years ago in the Dynasty reunion. He will be greatly missed."

• "He was a good friend to Aaron and me, and despite his matinee star good looks was as humble and down to earth as could be," said Candy Spelling, whose husband Aaron produced Dynasty and Charlie's Angels. "We were so happy when he agreed to be the voice of Charlie, and he always laughed about having to take a back seat to Farrah's hair. He was just such a lovely man, and the years we were able to work with him on Dynasty were a second gift. He also loved his horses and served on the board of Hollywood Park with Aaron. Every minute we spent with John was pure joy."
